Was in a big LGS today and saw what may be the biggest revolver I've ever seen. It was a Magnum Research 45-70 BFR! It shoots full size 45-70 rifle cartridges. The cylinder is about the size of S&W Governor but it only holds five of the gigantic rounds. Apparently 400+ gn bullets can be driven into the 1600 fps range from the ten inch barrel. I don't think I'd want to own one but it sure would be fun to shoot one, at least a few rounds. Maybe you all have seen or heard of these before, but it was new one on me.

Fired that round from a lever gun several times and it was pretty stout. That baby has to be a handful!
Edit: Dirty Harry didn't realize just how under powered he was.

I've shot the Magnum Research .45-70. Local guy had one with a scope, and the recoil really wasn't that bad. It IS a heavy gun. They also make them in .444 Marlin, .30-30 Winchester, .375 Winchester and a few others I can't remember offhand.
Also shot the Smith .500 Magnum. Don't really care to have one. Recoil was more abrupt and sharper than the Magnum Research...not near as heavy a gun.

They say the S&W .500 is the most powerful handgun but you would think this would be more powerful????
Apparently, the powers that be who make those decisions do not count Handguns that shoot Rifle Cartridges. They also didn't include TC's when they made that distinction, since at the time the S&W500 came out, the TC Contender had offered the 45-70 as a Factory Barrel for awhile.
