While reading up on Lg bore pistols and such, I came across an item on how S&W found the only way to make a hand gun stand up to the stress's a 50 Cal cartridge can deliver was to make the barrel a two piece arrangement. Sound familiar?

Not surprising at all. Late 70's and through the 80's saw several big name outfits scrambling to upgrade their revolvers to become competitive with that upstart front crane locking , screw in barrel heavy duty monsters that were winning all the steel critter matches.
But at least they had and have enough insight to know great ideas when they finally see them.
Happily the origonals are so much better to have and enjoy.
