One of my buddies has for sale a 15-2.  However, 357 appears right before the serial number.  I have never seen this before.  Usually just serial number not preceded by 357. Any insight would be appreciated.

It's pretty common in the stainless guns to be prefixed with "357S".  Is the gun you are referring to blue or stainless?

Around 1986 after a change in ownership the serial numbering scheme changed to include the caliber as part of the serial number. The hammer spur and cylinder stop on the sideplate were improved around then too.
