Are there any members here in possession of both a .45LC and a .460 DW cal. revolvers?

I am trying to verify if the .45LC barrels thread on to a .460 Rowland frame?

If a member has both, I'd like you to verify  the barrels are interchangeable   I  have a Rowland barrel here and it is marked .45 cal.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

They are both the same.  The diameters measure .687 on the frame end of threads.  The two thread pitches are the same.  I didn't have my gage handy, but they will thread into either frame, additionally, placing the two barrels thread to thread, they mesh perfectly.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Thank you kindly for your reply and confirmation.  This settles my inquiry perfectly.

I have a 460 Roland question. I think DakodaJack got his question answered but wanted to tell him my barrel is also marked 45acp My question is what ammo does my new gun shoot? There is a moon clip inside the box do I use that to shoot 45acp or do I use that to shoot 460 Roland ammo? Thanks for the help!IMG_7774.JPGImage Enlarger

Both. Both ammunitions are straight walled cases for semi's, which is what moon clips are for.

The .460 Rowland is a derivative of the .45 ACP with the goal of producing a cartridge which can achieve true .44 Magnum ballistic performance and be fired from a semi-automatic platform. Despite its name, the Rowland is a true .45 caliber cartridge, like its parent.

So all the ammo I shoot thru the Roland needs the moon clip to fire them? interesting I don't think I would have bought the gun had I known that. Are all Rolands like this like the S&W guns? I guess since I don't shoot much it's not a big deal but had I been a shooter this would be something I would think twice about. so if you're out in the woods and a bear is after you it must be a hard gun to reload fast? I guess I would half to be with a friend who is slower runner than me! LOL

45 auto rim doesn't need moon clips, but it's hardly worth shooting in the Rowland.  My favorite round for it is the 45 win mag.

The moon clips actually work like speed loaders, keep a few loaded with you and you can swap them in and out way faster than individual bullets.  The Dan uses S&W moon clips BTW.  Get yourself a bunch and load em up and have fun.  A de mooning tool to remove spent rounds is a good idea, saves the fingers.

I agree with Scorpio. The DW Rowland 460 is most appropriate when using 45 Win Mag. It is essentially a 44 Mag platform and can easily handle 45 Win Mag. The Rowland 460 is not as powerful as 45 Win Mag. It is nice though to be able to shoot multiple cartridges as 45 Win Mag is not readily available. . One caviat, the 45acp, 45 GAP  and 45 Super are not as accurate as as the Win Mag or 460.

I suspect a DW 45LC cut for moon clips would also chamber 460, 45Win Mag, 45acp, etc.

The ability to use multiple cartridges is one reason I love the Model 40.

I think you're right Ole Dog, a 45 LC cut for moon clips would handle 460 Rowland etc.

460 Rowland is a fun cartridge in a 1911 platform, not so much in a large frame Dan.
