I just bought a Redding 445 die set from MidwayUSA at an incredible low price of $141.97 and free shipping!!  Midway still has 1 die set left, so someone should jump on it.
Many thanks to KarlH for letting me know about this deal!!!!

I have a Redding 4 die 445 Super mag set that came with my gun when I purchased it from a friend. I wonder what it is worth now.

Do you think that much? It will be nice package with the ETG serial number gun and the ETG brass I have to go with it.

Nothing like your collection lol.

I have 7 Dan Wessons total. Model 15 4 barrel pack, 2 other model 15’s, 2 6” 44 mags with vented heavy shrouds one blued and one stainless, 1 22LR with two different barrels. 6” and 8” one standard shroud and one heavy. The 7445 ETG with dies, scope mount, and brass.

Kind of kicking around the idea of selling. I am getting old lol.

Most of mine are packs (I only show the pistols in my signature) and many of them I purchased from older gentleman.  I’ll be there soon too!!

Do they give you a roll crimp or a taper crimp die in that set?

I think the set you have is what I also have but I also have the profile crimp die.

Based upon the instructions, it appears the type crimp can be determined by how deep you set the die (how low it goes over the bullet/cartridge).  The die is stamped with “ST”.  I hope this pic of the instructions turns out good, it better explains the process.

I have been reloading 42 years. I reload 8 different handgun calibers. I have read about roll crimps and taper crimps. I have always wondered exactly what the difference is between a taper crimp and a profile crimp. Can anyone explain this to me when applied to the 445 super mag?

I will answer my own question. A profile crimp is just a better roll crimp per Redding.

Seat the bullet to the OAL you desire, and then profile crimp. I wonder why the 3 die set just doesn’t give us the profile crimp die in place of the normal die they send. They suggest the profile die for heavy recoil applications.

I’m new to reloading, I’ve only reloaded 3K 9mm over the past year.  I bought my reloading equipment from a friend and it was already setup for 9mm.  It came with 45ACP dies too.  I am kinda intimidated by reloading because there’s a LOT I don’t know so I’m gonna go slow and when I’m ready to switch from 9mm I’m gonna read/research a lot first.

I started out reloading 357, 38, 44 mag. I only had revolvers which are a little easier to load for. I added the 7445 later on. Pistols are not hard to load, but you need to keep an eye on OAL. Plunk test everything.

Take your time, double check everything, and purchase a couple reloading manuals.

Thank you for the great advice!  Hopefully once I’m retired in a couple years, I’ll have more time to put towards reloading.

That’s expensive for a 445 die set.  I’ve been using a standard 44 magnum set and it works just fine.  Most are long enough to accommodate the 445 case.  Just be sure to go with carbide, definitely worth the extra over standard tool steel.

Same here, the 44Mag dies work great, you just have to adjust the throw in the stroke/crimp end of the equation. And yes, definitely go with a carbide set.
