OfflineI must say...185 bids is the most bidding action I've seen on GB to date.
Honestly though, who in their right mind would pay $82K for a 100th anniv. 1911? I could maybe see someone shelling out that kind of dough for the very first documented 1911 ever made, but paying that for this one is just plain...

OfflineI'm no accounting genius, but if the purchaser donates this to the NRA (or other) Museum, would there not be some pretty substantial tax benefits?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

OfflineBlacktop, although it should, I don't think the NRA contributionnqualiifies as a charitable tax deduction.
I have a well-t-do dentist friend that paid over $100K for a $30K Harley at an auction for MD. He then in turn donated the bike to another charity for auction; he was able to deduct the $100K for that donation.

OfflineI don't mean a contribution to the NRA, I mean a gift to the NRA Museum. People give artwork all the time to museums and write it off as a gift. NRA Museum should not be any different.

OfflineAccording to this link at the museum web site, all donations to the museum are tax deductible.
