What's the story on the fixed barrel DWs

DW is known to me for the exchangable barrels. I've seen some "fixed barrel" models showing up. What's the story on these? Were they all more recent Palmer guns? Did DW go this route because is was cheaper or to compete with S&W?

Yes. Word has it that they made the FB guns to be more price competitive with S&W and others at the time. According to all we know so far, they were only made in the Palmer plant.
