I'm new here. I bought a DW 14 the other day with a s/n 3517x-1. Is the -1 type s/n common? Does it have any significance other than just a number

I guess you can disregard this post. I took pictures up close, blew them up on the computer and you can tell someone has added the -1. The bluing is non existent in the -1. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that.

At least they didn't carve their name on the side with a nail, or something.

What was the code that Dan Wesson used to denote a refurbished revolver?
I know that some manufacturers use a dash Y "-Y" (some an upside down Y) and others use a "-1" to denote a blemished reworked pistol or a pistol that was returned (tester, prototype or salesman's sample, etc) and then made good and unique again with the addition of the suffix.
This may account for the -1 suffix appearing to have been marked after the original serial number (post blueing).

DW has turned loose some blemish 1911s with the upside down Y. Do not know if they ever did this with revolvers or not.
