So I “won” this auction today for a Model 15 with a 15" barrel and zebrawood grips. It has the Barney finish on the frame and the auction description said the bluing is 99%. Also comes with the factory 15" box, barrel tool, feeler gauge. I hate to admit how much I paid. It still hasn’t hit me yet and I hope I won’t regret it 😂
$1600 plus 20.5% internet buyers premium. Ouch. I wanted a stainless 15" barrel but gave up on my search and settled on this

I think I overpaid a bit but whatever. I’m going to enjoy shooting it. Hopefully it’s in good condition and not shot to hell. Decent turn line on the cylinder.

Nice pick up! You'll forget the price over time. I saw that on ProxiBid but I never know how the delivery will work out so I never throw the old hat in the ring. Do you have to set that up beforehand with the auction company in case you win or is it just what 'it is ' after you win as far as costs?

Haha thanks. You just need to have a credit card linked to your proxibid account and then you click on the auction to get approved (which seems to be automatic from my experience) then place a bid.

The 15" BA in that condition is worth at least $ 1500. You cannot shoot it freehand. The muzzle will waver all over the place. It was used in IHMSA using the creedmore position. Laying on your back on the ground, you propped up your head with one arm and laid the barrel against your calf with your legs facing the target. A leather pad was used to protect your leg from the cylinder gap blast.
If you use it you can use a sandbag or a bipod. Or a forked stick. Be sure to pad the the stick or bipod so you don't mar the bluing. After you shoot it, clean and oil it, put it away for posterity and get an 8 or 6 inch BA. I love the 10" V also. Use a Pachmyer grip and save the Zebra for church. They go for about 200 on eBay.
You did real good. Boxes, zebra, tool sights. Worth more than you paid. IMHO.

I’ve got a 715 with 2.5, 6, and 8" barrels. The 8" has a drill n tap rail from DW and is a laser beam. I really wanted a 15" SS barrel for that but no luck.
My friend had a 15" barrel on his M15 a few years ago and it was fairly easy to shoot off hand. But I have decent sized hands with a good grip. I shoot my DW 744 10” barrel with a scope offhand along with desert eagles lol. So that helps.
Here’s me shooting a 15" barrel. Ringing steel at 40ish yards.

This will be my first blued revolver however. I’m used to using lead cleaning polishing cloths to clean my SS Dan Wesson’s but definitely can’t do that with this.
Just use CLP to clean fouling from cylinder and frame?

I use Rem oil and a brass brush. Then swab out with patches. I mostly shoot jacketed bullets.

I guess I meant to ask for the exterior surfaces. I only shoot jacketed bullets as well but you get plenty of fouling on the cylinder, top strap etc.

I use Flitz sparingly on blue guns when I buy them. I would use little dabs on fouled areas if residue builds up. Rub gently with fingers and polish off with a clean rag. After Flitzing and oiling a newly obtained gun I polish it with automotive carnuba wax. That helps prevent any build up and it wipes off easily. Stainless guns you can use Flitz to your hearts content., then wax. Make sure any oil is wiped from surfaces before waxing. Flitz removes the protective layer of oxide on stainless but over time it will reoxidize. Never use steel wool on stainless guns.. Minescule particles can stick in the steel and lead to black corrosion.

Andrew, Congrats on beating me out of this one. I thought it was worth it, and the $950 held so long I thought I was going to steal it for far less than my $1500 bid! I use a shooting stick with my 12". All you friends will want to shoot it, but the beauty is, you can pull the barrel and save it for special occasions shooting a shorter BA.
There is a bright side to losing this one: I have $1500 more to throw at the other two listings on my Wish List!

I was looking at that gun too but knew it would go beyond what I was willing to pay. I already have a 15" barrel and a nice 15-2 set that I enjoy shooting so I didn't cry when i saw it gone. I have a couple of SS 15s but haven't seen a 15" SS barrel. I would love to have one but I'm afraid that would be way out of my range.

Haha thanks! This is basically the most I’ve spent on a gun before. My brushed chrome desert eagle 44 was almost the same - bought that earlier in the year.
My heart was pounding as my max bid was $1600 and that was all I was willing to spend. Looks like it was just enough!😂
Ya it was $950 for awhile and I was like holy crap this might go for cheap…nope.
I have every intention to shoot this as I do not collect guns, I shoot them. Though I’m probably spoiled by the slicked up action and lighter springs in my 715. But who knows maybe this will have a nice trigger. Can always change out the springs. Glad I was able to help your wallet!😂
Total damage with shipping was $1973. Just got the invoice tonight. Was hoping they could ship it this week but they’re off Thursday and Friday so I doubt it.

Thanks. Ya my preference would be to have a SS 15" barrel as I have a 722, 715, and 744. I love stainless. Don’t see the 12" or 15" SS barrels too often.

No problem. My dealer charges $50 for the transfer since Dan Wesson guns aren’t on the MA approved firearms roster🙄
Little extra work involved so he charges more. Normally he’s $25 for transfers. But when I get to the shop I have to completely disassemble the revolver down to a bare frame because under MA law a firearm is defined as being capable of firing a shot. So a bare frame isn’t a firearm. That’s the workaround to these BS laws here in MA. Thank god DW’s are easy to disassemble. Though trying to do that with a large frame DW would be harder.
