I'm watching this western movie High Plains Invaders on Syfy channel (not my usual movie selection) 
and these guys are fighting off some space invaders with revolvers. Now one of the guys has a gun with what looks like a 8VH shroud ( I could count the vents - 4). I could see some of the other guns were S & W type with the cylinder latch in the back but didn't get a good look at the gun in question. Did any other manufacturers put vents in the shrouds? And one guy has a stainless gun also. How long ago did they appear on the scene?

The Colt Python has a vented barrel, and the Anaconda, Diamondback, Trooper MKV, some Taurus's.

Plus, quite a few companies came out with add-on vent ribs for all handguns... Then there is the prop armorer who does his own "movie magic" on guns.

Thanks, and later into the movie I saw the "gun" up close and it was not a Dan. BTW, the humans won.
