I have a model 715 with a full 8" underlug barrel. If I wanted to pick up a 6" barrel as well and found one with the partial underlug, would that work on my gun?

All BA's (barrel assemblies) designed for the 15-2 will fit any 15-2. This includes putting a stainless BA on a blued gun or vicer-versa. For any one length of barrel, any of the associated shrouds designs will work. So your 8VH, could be a 8V just by purchasing the shroud. You could buy an EWK 6EH BA, then hook up a 6" shroud in a lighter configuration to suit your fancy.

Actually, you can take this a step further, the shrouds freely interchange. I regularly use a ".357" shroud on my .22 lr 722. I've never located a 722 6VH shroud to go with the 6" .22 lr barrel I bought a couple of years ago, so I use a .357 Magnum shroud.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
