I have read a few people have gotten a 22 magnum cylinder for their 22lr revolver. I have read Norwich is who to speak to, but I have no idea who this is and what the contact information is for them. It looks like I would need to get a cylinder assembly with the ejector rod, and maybe the crane? then I can just swap that out to shoot the 22 magnum if I ever wanted to. Is this correct? thanks

I think I found it. I guess it is just Dan Wesson and Norwich, NY is the location.

Correct, DW started at Monson, then moved to Palmer, and now at Norwich since 2005.  I do not know the answer to your barrel/cylinder/crane/ejector swap question.  Someone here will know.

I would contact Bob Collins he is the Master Gunsmith.  I know the cylinders are fit there by Bob and your revolver would need to be sent in.  Here is Bob's email:  bob@cz-usa.com

This. Bob is the go-to. He's worked on all of my revolvers except for my 15-2.

Bob said those parts would need to be shipped directly to a FFL. When I spoke to him a couple weeks ago he made it seem like they can ship those parts to a FFL/dealer but most people end up sending the gun and parts to him as they're not drop in parts and not everyone knows how to fit them.

Smoore, if you want an interchangable 22 mag cylinder, yes, you can have a cylinder assembly fitted that you can swap out to shoot 22 mag when you want to. The only parts that need to be fitted is the star fitted to your hand. Actually, I have found that almost all used hands fit most stars. I haven't found one that isn't timed right yet in over a dozen cases. Since DW parts are not individually forged even though the hands and stars are fitted, in fact they are mostly interchangable.

Ole Dog is correct. I have a 22 mag cylinder with ejector star, that I have swapped into a 22LR frame and it worked fine. No need to change the crane either.

I wish I could just buy one and see if it was timed correctly and if not then send it in for work. I had emailed Genny before Bob and she also said to email Bob, but they wouldn’t sell me the cylinder directly it had to be an FFL transfer. I didn’t know that. But she also said I would have to send mine in. I emailed Bob and am waiting to hear back from him.

I had Bob do a dedicated 22 mag for me from a 22lr. I had him fit it with an unfluted cylinder so I wouldn’t confuse it with my 22lr. I’d never shot 22 mag before and really like it with the 10” barrel. Two thumbs up from me.

Yeah Bob told me it would need to be shipped to a dealer. Stupid but my dealer friend would probably just charge me next to nothing to receive it.

I got this from Bob this morning.

I have 22 mag. In carbon or stainless , fluted and unfluted. I would recommend unfluted if your long rife is a fluted cylinder. It easier to keep separated.  Price is $96.00 for the cylinder, $100.00 to fit and finish to frame, You will need a 22 magnum extractor assembly for $49.00, and a hand fit to 22 mag.at $25.00 , return shipping is $50.00. Total is $320.00 . There may be additional charges to bring the gun back to factory specs. If you are interested in sending your gun in for work click on the link below and fill it out. You will be emailed a conformation letter with an incident number for your case. Please  write this number on the outside of your package before shipping. Include a note stating what the problem is or what you want done. Include all your contact information. We will contact you for payment after we have evaluated your gun and prepared an estimate. Also include whether your gun is stainless or blue. Expect 6-8 weeks turnaround with possible delays for shipping or bluing. Thank you.

I am strongly considering it. I also just happened to get a chance at shooting 9mm through my 357. I can probably only do one of them right now, so I have to think about it. I will be more likely to shoot 9mm through my 357 since I always have 500+ rds of 9mm setting around. I have zero 22mag, just wanted the ability to do it. and I like the fact I would have a 22lr with 3 barrels and the ability to shoot 22mag. that makes for a pretty versatile gun. How ever I have also finally gotten 3 barrels for my old pork chop 357, and I would be able to shoot 38,357, and 9mm from it... 🙂

Do you use moon clips to be able to shoot 9mm in a 357 revolver?

I have not done it. I know a few people here have done it. I think most do use moon clips I plan on using moon clips if I do it. the 9mm is almost the same diameter as the 357. Sometimes they are a hair under, depending on if they were reloads ect. I believe the 9mm have a slight flare in the casing that prevents them from fitting the 357 cylinder. if you have a cylinder machined for moon clips and slightly enlarge the holes in the cylinder, it is my understanding it will shoot a 9mm just fine.

I think the porchop 9 is a great idea. Also I didn’t have any 22 mag when I started now I have around a 1000 rounds. They aren’t cheap but super fun to shoot. Looks like you have a couple of cool projects ahead. Keep us posted.

I put on different grips and the short barrel with the 357 shroud I purchased. I think I am going to go ahead and send it in for the 22 mag conversion.
