Shout out to Bob at DW! He just did a complete refinish, spring replacement, new hand, and fit hammer and trigger on my Mod 40 Maximum. Looks amazing! Almost don't want to shoot it now!

Bob is the man! I'm patiently awaiting my 15 inch shroud to be returned from Bob as he was getting it drilled and tapped. I paid for the work 2 weeks ago but it still hasn't shipped.

Pics please! I'd love to see what the bluing looks like. I heard it's not as deep and shiny as the old vintage DW bluing. But hey! if it was all banged up and rusted etc, any bluing is better!

I got a quote from Bob for re-blueing a 15-2 with a 15” B/A, he said “Cost will be $100.00 for the shroud only, Shipping may be as much as $30.00. If you wish to have to complete gun done it will be $250.00 plus $50.00 shipping”.

Not bad. Did you receive that 15inch 15-2 I take it? Needs to be reblued?

I asked Bob for the estimate because I was thinking of bidding on the GB auction for a 15-2 pistol pack that included a 15” BA.  I already won the 15-2 with just the 15” (pic below), but thought I may want the other too since it was a pack.  Unfortunately 2 of the BAs (8” & 15”) in the pack needed refinish.  I decided to pass on the pack.  I’ll just keep this single barrel 15” instead.  I just picked it up 20 minutes ago!  I’ve got slobber & fingerprints all over it.  Everyone at the gun shop loved it too. dwasbuy-now882D9B99-9967-458D-986A-3A560324B729.jpegImage Enlarger

Is the bluing as deep / dark as original DW bluing?

Larry, this is my very first DW blue pistol, all my other DWs are stainless so I’m no expert on DW blues, but the blue on this is VERY nice IMHO.    It has a very deep blue/black hue that is more blue than black.  Most blued guns I own are more black than blue in color.  I can now see why you wouldn’t want to have an original re-blued unless it’s really bad…I’ve read the current blueing process doesn’t match the original hue.  It’s a shame the current blueing process cannot replicate the original hue.

I wish I knew how to add pics! I want him to reblue the 007 serial number 15-2 I got.

As for cost on my model 40, they charged me $469 to completely reblue whole gun and shroud, replace all the springs, replace the hand, and fit the new hammer and trigger I supplied and ship it back. Didn't think that was too bad.

Not horrible considering all the work.

Does anyone have both a nice original blued and a refurbished one and could maybe give some pics and a comparison?  I’d love to know how close or far apart the current blueing is to the original.

A comparison pic would be cool. Mine wasn't really too bad but it looked as if someone removed the grip and put it in a vise with pads that were dirty. The "smear" marks weren't deep, it just didn't look good. It was getting internal work and I asked about bluing. When he told me what it costed, I told him go ahead and do it. I was expecting a lot more.

Ford's custom guns in Florida posted on facebook the other day of a reblued DW 1911. I asked if they reblue DW revolvers and they said they do. No idea on price or what their bluing looks like compared to DW's factory bluing.

You'd have to email them

Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing | Crystal River, FL (fordsguns.com)

2022 All Retail Pricing.pdf (hibuwebsites.com)

Edit: they have photos on their site. This is the only DW photo they had but it looks shiny

Checkout the "master blue" on this CZ. WOW! That'd look great on a DW revolver
