got a new to me DW .44 mag. came with two compensated barrels. a 4 & a 6. the 4 is on the gun and removes properly. the 6 WONT budge. I've soaked it in kroil for 2 days then ATF for a week. tried the heat gun. no go. ran a 3/8 rod thru the barrel and pulled shroud against barrel. still stuck. i don't want to ruin the shroud by using a hyd press, but i think that may be the only answer. anybody have the same problem. I believe the shroud would collapse under hydraulic pressure. I know to contact the factory to see if they can repair this. just curious/looking for thoughts.

Sounds like it's bad-stuck!  You've tried all the things I would have mentioned.  I think you may be well served by sending it to DW.

Disclaimer: no experience w compensated Dans but a fair bit w machinery in general. Kroil & ATF are good lubricants but you need a true solvent to loosen the gunk between shroud and tube. Finish on the part will influence how chemically aggressive you get before turning to a professional. Good powder solvents should be safe or the aerosol gun scrubbers. May want to start w the original bore cleaner - boiling water. Decent powder solvent and the heat couldn't hurt?

FORGIVE ME for making a stupid statement did you check to make sure the inner barrel nut is off!laughingalso have you looked down the barrel to see if you can see any bulges in the rifileing of the barrel. Question, are we talking about a compensated shroud or a ported shroud? Daytonpost-picsjust looking for more info to better understand your problem!

first off, thanks for the advice. yep, trying better solvent over the weekend. the barrel looks perfect. no bulges or even any sight of rust. and yes, no barrel nut. I have a machinist background  and never had broil fail me. it is a 3-slot compensated barrel. i'm really stumped as to the cause. will probably call the DW factory for repair request next week. i no longer have access to machine shop equipt.

Hmmm. Compensated BA's from the Palmer Era were not power ported. The issue is unlikely to be residue between the  barrel and shroud. Corrosion maybe. Just perhaps, it is from a fixed barrel compensated model. The barrel nut would have no slots? The barrel may have been torqued on. The whole assembly may have been removed from a frame in one piece.

Try a sonic cleaner. Worked for me on a badly stuck Monson 4" 715 BA

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

And there's a reason to get one, if you don't already own one- win, win!

Are both shrouds 3 slot compensated? I think the fixed barrel was different from the interchangable one. Which one was the 3 slot.

I googled it and went to the forum. Lol. Easier to Google than search the forum on my phone.

The 2 slot shroud was the fixed barrel. 3 slot is interchangable. Perhaps someone loctited it.

Your not trying by any chance tiring to move the frame end treads through the shroud. The shroud slides off the muzzle end of the barrel. Sorry for asking such a dumb question.
