I have a Dan Wesson .357 called the Virginia Revenuer.  It has a gold inlaid police badge on one side and a gold inlaid still (moonshine) on the other side.  I've tried to do a little internet reseach on it but can't find anything.

It's a great pistol and shoots well.  I got it from a buddy who didn't want it in the house with his toddler.  I paid him $150 and a fishing pole.  It used to belong to his dad who was a police chief.  His dad carried this as his service weapon.

Just wondering if anybody here knows anything about this limited edition.

Thanks.

I've seen police commemorative versions offered from other makers, but have yet to see one from Dan Wesson. Just speaking for myself, I doubt very many were made at all...maybe some of our other members know more. Does it have a special serial number too?

Recently, one of our members posted some pics of his 15-2 Pistol Pac with a gold plaque on the left side from a previous owner...although it sounds like yours is probably engraved?

I think you've landed a pretty unique DW...and for a STEAL, too!GTDW If you can post some pics, we'd sure love to see someCool Pics of this one!Drool

That's a very interesting revolver, we've not had anything like that here before. It's interesting the the "50 Years" starts in 1934, essentially with the repeal of Prohibition.

Can we pester you for a couple of clearer photos, including the work on the barrel?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

not to sound like Capt Obvious here- but the engraving ABC.. is for Alcohol Beveridge Control.. most States have the Alcohol enforcement folks tied in with that State's Revenue (taxing) agency..

for example- in GA. - ours is called ATD (Alcohol & Tobacco Division) of the Dept of Revenue. Those guys are charged with enforcing the alcohol laws (and tobacco laws)  of the State. That used to be (and sometimes does now) chasing moonshine stills. But since crack cocaine and other illegal substances  came along....not so much !

Most of the enforcement now comes in the way of unerage sales- for both alcohol and tobacco.

I'm betting this was a gift for someone retiring from that Agency..

I'll bet you're exactly right, Scotty.Smile I hadn't thought of the "ABC" connection before, but it makes sense. That is certainly a unique DW to have in one's posession...sorta hope one like it lands in my lap one day.DWAS hehe  Big Grin

Thanks a ton for sharing the pics, Jrsobx.occasion

Hello to all,

I'm new to the forum, but a member to others. I think I can shed some interesting light about this revolver. I too have one of these revolvers, mine is #100 of 130. Here is the history of these very limited revolvers. In early 1985, 130 revolvers were auctioned off in Roanoke,VA with all proceeds going to the state of VA. The exact cause, I'm not sure. All but 2 were sold(the first and last ) the rest are out there somewhere.  I was given my revolver by a late friend when I was 14. I still have the box, papers, and it is unfired! The moonshine still, state flower, and badgeinlay is 14K gold. Now for insurance reasons, I've had it appraised. Due to the limited run, (under 200) the revolver is worth approx 1500.00. Apparently, firearms of limited productions 200 or less hold a higher value than larger limited production runs. Anyway, that is my 2cents worth. I look forward to talking with everyone!     BrianMini Gun

Brian,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the information.  I actually live in the Roanoke Valley but would have only been 12 when these were auctioned off.  If you get time we would really enjoy seeing some pictures of yours.

I recognized this firearm when I saw it and my dad has one of these.  He works with the VA ABC board and he purchased this firearm in the 80's through the department (he said that he had no knowledge and doesn't think that these have ever been auctioned off).  I will try to get some photos of it tomorrow after work and hopefully we can get some info on it because I have always been interested in knowing a present day value. Thanks for any info anyone can give!!

I have to add my 2cents in here also. I have
seen one of these guns years ago, I had a girlfriend that’s dad was a VA ABC
agent. ( also here in Roanoke Va.) He showed it to me one night, his story was
that they were only sold to ABC agents.
