Hi guys, I would like to share something different with you. Yes the heading is correct. These are a matched pair of a model 10 and 16 with consecutive serial numbers. The model 10 is a 38 Special with a recessed barrel nut with out the dog leg shroud and with service sights. The model 16 is a 357 Magnum with again a recessed barrel nut and without the dog leg shroud. Also you will notice there is a set screw to hold the crane in place and on the model 16 it has the model 12 type rear sight. Pretty cool pair. I am not sure if they ever went into production but if so it was a very short time. As you can see these are production serial numbers, not X numbers like they used on prototypes. I have documentation that these were put out the same time frame as the 14 and 15 right about Oct. 1972. So it is interesting that the shroud on the 10 and 16 were out that long ago prior to the 14-2 and 15-2 with out the dog leg shroud.

Thanks for sharing these beauties with us.
I had no idea that the -2 shrouds came out that early. Those are some neat pieces. Has anyone else ever seen these models? Just wondering if they made it out into the public in any quantity.

These are very cool, Eric!
With the exception of the sights, top strap & ejector rods, those look like "-2" guns. Even the front of the frames are cut back like the -2 frames. Also, it looks like they have an "S" stamped after the model numbers, I wonder what the significance is there? The crane set screw is interesting on the model 16...the 10 doesn't have one? Maybe they were still spit-balling crane retention ideas at that point.

How many more surprises do you have for use Eric? The definitive story of High Standard and now unheard of models! Amazing that no one has come across these if they actually were in production. That would make sense since the debut of the 14-2 and 15-2 was much earlier than we realized. Was there a model 13 or was that skipped. Do you have any experimental guns or photos? An experimental 360 was on Gunbroker a while back and we know that was in production. Any that didn't make it? Lastly , do you know how many "Gold Series" 15-2's were made? There is very little info on them.

you are most welcome guys!. Let me try to answer some questions.
Charger..I think the -S on the Model 16 was for Satin. Not 100% but that would make sense for the time frame of what they offered for different finishes. The crane set screw is on bot the model 10 and 16.
Ole Dog..I don't have anything on the 360 stuff pictures, proto's or otherwise. The Gold Series 15-2's if I remember were very popular in Germany. Very nice gun. I don't have much on that but I will do some digging for you.

That info on the -S makes sense. I have an early 14 porkchop in satin nickel and it is marked 14-S under the crane.

Amazing, I am glad you don't share everything at once! Heck now we have to keep our eyes open for darn strange looking Models that we never were made! The fix barrels group and now early non pork! I wonder what will show up next!!!

When I seen the topic title I'm thinking someone has mistakenly joined the DWF when obviously they need to be over one the Smith and Wesson Forum! So Steve and I were certainly thinking alike on this one!
Eric, the historical information you have been providing on the site is very interesting and most appreciated!
If I'm not mistaken the 360 wasn't developed until around 1999 so it's understandable that Eric wouldn't have any information on this one.
