I had kinda the same experience when I was invited to shoot rotating metal discs at a new-found friend's range. The guns were .357 & under...so I thought no problem here. So I brought a couple DW15's & did okay. Not great, but okay.

Now as usual here in Utah, often times these ranges are situated at the base of either a large hill, or an actual mountain. This time, it was at the base of an outcropping of the Wasatch mountain range, northern end, near Ogden. After the shoot, as peeps were packing away their stuff, 3-4 guys whipped out some guns that were out of the rules for the shoot & started blazing away. Most of them were like 10MM & 40 Cal auto's. I went back to the truck & grabbed my Ruger SBH .44 Mag, and a handful of ammo.Â

The first BOOM, all other shooters fell silent. As I was reloading after that first cylinder dump, two guys approached & said WTH is that hand cannon!? I said some iteration of, "oh, this little thing"? Then said I should have brought one of my BIG boomers, if you think this is something! After permission, they both took turns on this gun. I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch they both currently own a version of this gun, this thing has always been a smile-maker. Hehe

I don’t have a photo of it, but I remember firing a S&W .500 Magnum (4in. barrel) at the local indoor range a while back. It was so loud with such a fireball that everyone just stopped shooting and looked to see what in the heck I was shooting. I swear the rafters in the place rattled a bit. Lol.

Some great photos, everyone! As the only firearm design that has the chamber and barrel as separate entities the additional fireworks at the cylinder/barrel gap of a revolver can be spectacular! Take a closer look at my .38 photo. I had loaded only one chamber; so you can see some flames bouncing back to the recoil shield through the adjacent empty chambers. So cool.

I did not notice that initially, I zoomed in and yes absolutely a cool photo of the flame blow-back in the empty cylinders!!

Not sure if I may have posted this photo a few years ago, but it’s so much fun I thought I would share it again. Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special. A lucky chance of capturing the exact moment the bullet has left the barrel.Â

Final Update:Â

We have similar targets set up at 1500 yds & 1-mile which are painted white with orange bullseye. Â These pics show them with my iPhone zoomed all the way and without zoom to give perspective. Â 1-mile target appears above the 1500 target in the photos.

I first shot at a 12” swinging steel target at 600 yds to confirm scope windage and elevation settings.  My sccope was zeroed at 175 yds.  Ballistics calculator app said 10 moa elevation which turned out to be dead on, however it took 5 shots to determine correct windage to be left 0.5 moa.

I then switched to the 1-mile target (overall 22” tall x 64” wide).  I dialed in 57.50 moa elevation, set parallax, set zoom to 30x, chambered first round, double-check scope bubble level, sighted in, then flipped safety off.  Took a breath and slowly exhaled, at full exhale I set off the first shot.  It took about 3.5-4 seconds and it was an impact!!  The Caldwell Flashbang lit up and we could see the bullet impact via our Longshot camera system (see pic).  I was absolutely thrilled!!!  I hit 4 out of 7 shots that session and all impacts were on the center steel target.  Couldn’t be happier! Â
(the pic loaded incorrectly, needs rotated 90-deg CCW)

Thanks for everyone’s help and input, custom rifles and reloading for them has been a lot of fun.
