I watched this revolver up for auction 6 months before I broke down and bought it because I'm a sucker for service revolvers. Price was a little high, 38 spl and DAO so there were no bidders. I knew from the serial number it was a special contract model almost certainly NYCPD. I doubt anyone noticed what it was. I'm waiting for a Ruger letter to confirm.

Just curious,
Did Ruger do anything to the revolver other than delete the hammer spur? Is the D/A trigger the same as the D/A pull on a D/A - S/A Service six?

It's a true DAO in that you can't pull the hammer back and lock it as in SA. You can't convert it to DA/SA by switching hammers so the trigger must be altered to make it DAO. I notice no difference in the trigger pull weight compared to my DA/SA GP100s. My Six Series revolvers seem to have a shorter pull before the hammer drops especially after cylinder lockup. I seem to shoot my Speed Sixes and this Service Six better because of it. RTFM: I took her to the range the next day after transfer and put 75 rounds through it which may be more than it's seen in it's 34 years. I may not use it to test my reloads but won't be a safe queen either.
