I can here to do some research. I'm from Va.

 

I have the opportunity to buy a 1911, with a low serial number. But I'm not familiar with DW and have come here to learn before I leap.

Welcome to DWF! I own an earlier  "DWE" numbered gun, mine is a PM1-S. THIS will help you with a little more info on the 1911's of that era. For some reason not clear to me, these earlier DW 1911's often do not command the same $$$ as the later/current ones, a good thing because they are great guns that you can get a really nice deal on. I'd think anything at or under $800 on a clean PMGD would be pretty good.

A PM3 went very quickly on Gun Broker recently for just over $500, that was a smoking hot deal!
