Title changed to: Parkerized/ Yukon Coated? 715-2 PP, 2-28-14, start at post #5 (rwsem)

Howdy, members!  Been lurking awhile and nice to finally join.  Big fan of the .357 magnum 15's and have a few including pistol packs. Also very fond of my DW .22 6-shootin' tack-driver.

Just picked up a model 14 (fixed sights) 6" in great shape except for a scratch that was allowed to surface rust on the shroud.  Best I could tell EWK has replacements for M 15 but not M 14.  Any know sources for a 6'" shroud or assembly (any length) would be greatly appreciated.

A big WELCOME, glad your here. Sounds like your already infected with DWAS. You have a 14-2 there. Model 14's have the porkchop shroud. Fixed sight guns are sleeker and a lot of carefree shooting if the shoot to POA. You may have to try different ammo to find what it likes. I would keep checking ebay for the barrel assemblies. They show up pretty regularly. I like the 4".

Will do.  Barrel is near perfect so only need a shroud if I stick with 6" but 4" seems better.  I forgot to put 14-2.  No porkchops, ...yet.

I have a different PP from what I usually see.  15-2,  4 barrels with flat black finishes, Monson, stainless barrels and cylinder.  Hope it's not a Franken-pack.

This sounds a little unusual, a Serial Number and pictures might help narrow this down. It might be (and this is a real WAG) a stainless pack that was refinished. Flat back anything in 15-2 is not at all common

Welcome and so you know EWK makes a fix so as to use a 15-2 shroud on the 14-2. Check with him and you may be able to add a light vent or heavy vent to your 14-2!  Yip we need to see more cool-pics of that  frankin pac!

Something else to consider. Have the present shroud drilled and tapped for a scope. use it on your 14-2 or 15-2's when shooting long range.

Hmmmmmm??

Why not just have the shroud refinished and re-blued.  One of our members here (I can't remember his name right now, but someone will) used to do bluing for DW.  Others here have had him do work for them and seem to be very satisfied.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I had a buddy looking for his 1st revolver and I wanted to start him off right...broke down and actually parted with a DW.  Plenty of backups though.  He plans to get a re-blue on the shroud eventually.

I got some pics of the PP with blued frame, stainless cylinder and parkerized (? ) barrels.  Should I post here or elsewhere?

The shrouds are completely FLAT black and heavily oiled in these pictures.  Maybe Parkerized?  I have looked at the frame closely and the only SS that I can tell is the crank,cylinder/latch, ejector rod and side-plate screws.  I'm adding some inside pictures.DSCN1059.JPGImage Enlarger

Ahh, okay, you have a stainless 715-2 that has been coated at some point.

Interesting!  Frame blueing looks original to my eyes and the SS cylinder/crank give it a...uhmm...unique look that is kinda growing on me. Parkerized shrouds with stainless barrels seems unusual for SS(original) frame.

Maybe this PP was pieced together from multiple sources.

Thanks for the help everybody.

The "S" in your serial number gives it away...S denotes a stainless frame.wink

I added some inside pictures above.  I still can't tell that the frame is stainless despite the serial #.  My other DW's are not SS and this frame matches them.  Curious about the Monson flat/Parkerized shrouds also.

Maybe they ran out of SS frames but didn't want to change the roll-stamp?

Not sure. Shrouds black but barrels white SS. All my other DW assemblies have blued barrels.  Frame looks standard glossy black/blued steel with white SS crank/latch, cylinder, ejector rod and side-plate screws.  Not a single indication that anything has ever been refinished best I can tell except the serial # indicates SS .
