 Hello everyone. I found this forum after doing some searches after getting back into the DW game. I bought my first DW back in 1987, a 715 6 inch VH, the first handgun I ever purchased. I loved it from the moment I took it out of the box! Unfortunately, I had to sell it to my father about 2 years later after running into money troubles while attending college. He was supposed to sell it back to me when I graduated and found a job, but that never happened. I`ve been looking for another one for a few years, and missed out on one for $400 just a couple of months ago. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I just purchased a 715 VH pistol pack for just a little more. The 6 inch barrel has some issues, but I can live with it. I hope to learn more from the members here and maybe expand my collection in the future.

. One barrel assemble is almost worth that. You did really well.

Welcome to the forum hdrider80!  That is a SMOKIN' deal on a 715 Pistol Pac,  indeed.  That may be the best  so far this year.  On gunbroker that would have fetched north of $1500 easily I believe.
How long will it take for the denim burns on your hand to heal from getting your wallet out so fast? Â

I didn`t have to get my wallet out, already had the cash in my hand when I met him. LOL I didn`t want it to get away. But on a different note, I`m having trouble looking up the serial number on the pdf here. The serial number is 8320X, no letters or anything else. It is a Monson. I don`t see anything like that under the 715 group, but do see similar serial numbers from 15-2 in 1977.

You are correct, that is not a valid S/N for a 715. Is it possible that this gun is not stainless, but has been refinished in Armolly or NP3? Please check the cylinder to see if the chambers are recessed to allow the case rims to seat flush? Is there an overtravel screw built into the trigger, or is the overtravel screw in the frame behind the trigger?

I too thought I had an experimental stainless gun way before their time. Steve was right then too. However , it is still GTDW. Hard chrome is far more durable than nickel or blue and doesn't scratch like stainless can. Cleaning is a breeze. That is a fine set you have. The one drawback to chrome is finding more shrouds but you have them. Welcome to the forum.

 Steve, the cylinder is recessed and the over travel screw is behind the trigger. I have no idea if it has been refinished or not, I have never seen anything refinished in the 2 you mentioned. I have had the side plate off and all the internals seem to be stainless. All the letters and numbers on the frame and shrouds are clear and crisp, they don`t seem to have been filled in with some kind of coating. The 715 I bought new in `87 had a polished finish, not mirror, but not satin either. This seems to be a satin finish. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Given the Serial Number and the two features you confirmed, you have a 15-2 from 1977. At some point in time this gun was refinished, it is not a 715.Â
Robar does the NP3 finish, which sounds a lot like what you have
