I'm new to handgun ownership, but when researching and test firing what would work best for me, somehow I stumbled across several pictures of Dan Wesson .357's with vent heavy barrels. Â That's all it took, I was in love. Â Unfortunately I can't just go buy one because they are not on the California hand gun roster so I went for a stainless 6" Ruger .357 revolver. Needless to say, I'm very envious of the recent post from clames, the new member from PA/LA who got the 15-2 vent heavy pistol pak. Â Very, very nice present. Â
This new love affair with Dan Wesson revolvers has made me want to learn more about it so what better place to start than the Dan Wesson forum to get as much information as I could from members who know way more than me!! Â Eventually, I'd like to buy one, but it would have to be either a private party transfer from two CA residents or finding one in a pawn shop.

Hosspower and Steve CT-you are right. Â I was looking at gunbroker early last week and saw a pistol pak listed in a pawn shop in S. California. Â Since they aren't on the CA roster, I didn't understand how a CA pawn shop could sell one. Â I started asking around and found the answer, but it was too late. Â The listing was removed a day later and I didn't catch the name of the pawn shop. Â
I'll keep my eyes peeled and my nose to the DW forum. Â Thanks guys.

I'm no expert on the laws in Californistan, but if it's already there, I think you can buy it, correct?
I really should not pick on the CA laws, Connecticut is headed there too.

Steve and rwsem-correct, if it's already here, it can be purchased. Â But since it's not on the CA roster, none of new limited pre-production DW I've been seeing on the Gunbroker will be available at any retail store in CA. Â If a store in CA already had a DW in stock, yes it can be purchased. Â It basically leaves me searching in pawn shops where someone has consigned a DW or finding someone who wants to sell and we meet up at an FFL to do the transaction. Â That's my understanding in a nutshell. Â
CA gun laws are restrictive, but if I look at it with a 'glass is half full' mentality, then a purchase of an elusive DW revolver is that much more meaningful. Â

Hello all. Been awhile, but I am back. The law in CA. is; no dealer can sell a non roster gun, that they own,to anyone other than law enforcement.They can and do sell them on consignment, which is treated as a private party transfer. They also sell them outside their store front, as if from their own collection, but again the person selling it must be the legal owner ( not the store ). I got mine from a gunsmith with a store front that sells alot of guns on consignment, which is what mine was. You have to watch pawn shops, because alot of times there non-roster guns are LEO. Hope this helps

Both right! I am moving out of CA in a few months. California seems to operate on the assumption that it is up to the government to think for you whether or not you agree with them. Most people here would rather pass a law (good or bad) to "fix" something, rather than just use a little common sense. After all, we all know that these Dans we all love must be horribly dangerous guns, so they should not be in CA.

Thanks for the tips on a DW purchase. Â That's what I kind of figured, but you clarified quite a bit for me. Great information - that's why I joined. Â
I think there are some changes in store as far as 2nd amendment rights in CA-there's been more and more cases challenging the gun laws where the court has ruled unconstitutional CA law.  It's a glacial pace, but moving along none the less.  Maybe California will turn it's attention on spoon regulation for making people fat.....

Already spent big $$$ to buy tickets, why can't you buy and eat what you want to?
BUT you probably cannot bring your gun with you to protect yourself from whatever bottom feeder wants to buy a ticket.
