I've been a revolver fan my whole life, have several S&W's.A 614, 586 L comp(I want to sell or trade), a 4 " 686 thats smoother than my Python, (2) 610's, one NIB last production, one 610-2 pre-lock. a Python, a Diamondback, and a 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk from the 70's that's like new.
Just put a deposit on my first DW, a 715 Pistol Pack with 4 barrels, 21/2, 4, 6, 8 inch. Only the 4 inch was fired. Seller says it's a mid 1970's production. Everything was included in the case.
The offer of $1300 was accepted, now I'd like to know if I made a reasonably good purchase!
Cannot wait to shoot it!

Great buy. Seller was a little, misinformed though. The first stainless Dans were from very early 1981 I think. The serial number will tell the tale. If it is in fact from the mid 70s it might be hard chromed.

The earliest 715 that I am aware of is 1982. The Serial Number on your gun would help narrow this down, if you don't want to post the S/N publicly, you could send me a Personal Message.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Upon picking up my gun and speaking with the shop owner, I found that I didn't have a 715, but a 15-2 VH, that the original owner had nickel plated, supposedly at the factory. I also submitted the serial number here at the DW site for date it was built.
It seems that every document that came with the gun was included. The warrantee card said February, 1982. The brochure looks as new. The belt buckle and patch are as new as well. The barrel tool was broken, and couldn't remove the barrel nut without me using channel locks. The nut seemed unusually tight.
So, this does leave me with some questions as to whether or not the value was reduced by it being nickel plated. I will say however, that the plating job is amazing, and mirror like, and at least equal to my Pythons finish.
What say you guys?
The gun is as pretty as a gun can get, and nearly flawless in finish!

Capt, you snagged a great prize. Factory nickel 15-2 Pack ANIB is a rare bird. If it can be verified or not, it is worth way more than a blue gun. Early nickel Dans did not have the hammer and trigger plated. It I possible if it was requested, DW would have done it. Get a plastic tool on eBay but don't use it. Then get an EWK or factory steel tool to use on this and all your future small frame guns.

Thanks Ole Dog, you confirmed my hopes. This gun is nickel everywhere. With that being said, if I don't shoot it, I don't hide it! I'm too old to collect "stuff" just for my kids to sell someday.
Just got back from the range and with the 6 inch barrel at 20 yards offhand I was holding to about a 6 inch group through 3 cylinders of 38 target ammo. I'll admit that it was a different feel than my 686, or Python. I'm sure I'll have it dialed in in no time!
I'm choppin' at the bit to break her down, get out the dremel (and the YouTube video) and slick this baby up. I guess there are no spring kits that improve the action, so I'll just wing it and shine her up inside, maybe throw a ss spacer or two on any friction points.

Please put the Dremel away, Dremel has F'ed up too many guns

Do not make the mistake of treating it like a Smith. If you use a Dremel you will remove the hardened surfice of the lockwork. Wolff reduced power springs are the single best thing you an do. I recommend the 8 lb hammer spring. EWK sells them. Part of tuning a small frame Dan is lightly polishng the inside of the frame and sideplate. I think nickel plating does that. Lightly is the operative word. You won't have to do that. The reduced power trigger return spring is the single best thing you can do.

Thanks Steve, will get the springs.
The only thing I do with a dremel is use a cotton tip and Flitz, only polishing what needs it, or places that obviously are rubbing.
I dont mess with sears for sure!

It never occurred to me that the insides are plated too? guess I'm have to take a look, and for sure couldn't improve the finish if that is so.

Glad to be of use. Much better to learn from others mistakes. Us crazy collectors run into lots of boo boos Smith collectors make. One of the most aggravating is barrel nut that has been locktited. But sometimes you think it is locktited but the plastic wrench is broken and turning inside the tool. Of course, that never hapened to me.
