Hello from Maryland. I just purchased a Dan Wesson 715. It appears little used or possibly unfired, I believe it only had one previous owner. It is a late Monson gun. I am relatively new to revolvers, but I like it quite a bit. I had shot many "traditional" revolvers, but they didn't quite click with me (except for Ruger). The Dan Wesson design fits me like a glove, I am particularly fond of the double action trigger pull.

I am curious about my new purchase, it has an SD0 prefix. It has the checkered rather than serrated hammer. Does this mean the hammer and trigger are sintered? I've looked over the site (and google), but I can't find any information about my revolver's construction. What parts were sintered/cast/forged? Should I order new internal parts from CZ-USA? Is my frame a forged frame? I believe this gun was made in the late 80's.

Happy to be here and I would appreciate any advice for my new revolver.

Welcome to DWF. There will be absolutely no sintered parts in a 715. The sintered internals went by the wayside with the introduction of the 14/15-2 models in 1975.

Two great topics to review are:

Steve has you covered on the History and construction question.  S is for stainless and the D is the .357MAG designation.
