Hello and Merry Christmas to the DWF

My wife and I returned to shooting after most of life got finally out of the way and we have been having fun together and collecting some nice firearms over the past few years. We live in one of the Brookfields in Mass, just about 15 miles from Monson and Palmer, the original DW buildings.

I remember reading about Dan Wessons when I was in high school, and my dad and uncle were avid shooters back in the 70s but I was never curious to find out more. Fast forward: Earlier this week I put a used Dan Wesson (my first) on layaway at my LGS. I knew I was in trouble when I walked in to get some stocking stuffer ammo and one of the guys said "Hey Ed, look at this", knowing I have a penchant for certain types of revolvers. He had it tagged as a Dan Wesson M-15 .22 LR

It's a .22 Monson build, blued, 6 inch barrel (no other barrels, wrench or gauge) and looks in good shape. It has the combat finger style wood grips and not the standard smooth style. It's vented, but not heavy. Good consistent trigger and lockup. What caught my eye was the 4 digit serial number: 26xx. So I take it not many .22s were made (compared to say a 260xxx serial string)

Being Christmas, I knew the shop owner would cut me a good deal, as we frequent his shop regularly, so I put down a deposit.

Being in Massachusetts, any firearm costs more here, especially older ones that do not have new counterparts for sale under the draconian Mass Firearms Availability Roster List, so many of us often feel buying at a premium (even discounted) is a necessary legal evil we contend with. Ok, off my soapbox...

I'll post a few pics of it after I pick it up after the holidays, and all the wrapping and too-much Christmas festive stuff is cleared from the den....

Hope to learn more from my new forum friends, and do the same the best I can.

Eddie

Welcome to DWF, I live just south of Hartford, so we are sort of neighbors. Your Model 22 (the M15 labeling was not correct) is pretty early production, most likely 1979.

EWK Arms is your best bet for a top quality barrel wrench, take a look on the lower right sidebar

Thanks Steve - I figured the M 15 was wrong and he labeled it as M for Monson on a 15 style model, which I know he has had in the shop before under 357s. Now to start that long road of building my own pistol pack!

In .22 lr, that is going to be a "long and winding road". Tough to get stuff for a .22

Welcome to the DWF!  Anything can happen with enough patience, time, and money... even a built-from-scratch .22 pistol pac.

Regards, Ron
