Hello from Kansas City. I've been a big revolver fan as long as I have been shooting but didn't start my interest in Dan Wessons until a few years ago when I got my first 15-2 and boy was it an interesting lesson that took me down the rabbit hole of grip screw lengths, carbon locked barrel nuts, and Average Joe tuning methods.

It ended up falling victim to my restless gun trading syndrome but I'm getting back into the arena with a large frame 44 here soon now that I've got a reloading station fully set up for 357, 44 mag, and 45 Colt. I've had a lot of fun so far deep diving through topics and soaking up knowledge.

I may come to regret passing this knowledge on but I am an employee of CZ-USA and if any of you have contacted CZ customer service in the past 5 years for any issues DW related or otherwise, its very likely you have spoken to me. I won't give too much away, but part of my real name is incorporated into my username here.

Hoping with that little bit of info shared, I might be able to pass on some unique knowledge to repay what I take. Didn't even bother asking the crew in NY if Keith, Shane, or Bob are members on here, I guess I'll probably find out soon if so.

Looking forward to being a part of the community!

Welcome to the forum from PA!!!!

It is nice to have an insider here, I don't think Keith or Bob (Serva/or the retired revolver smith?) are active on here or members at all?????

It's nice to see Keith has taken up the revo repair on a somewhat limited schedule.

Thanks everyone. I was referring to Bob Collins the smith who retired recently. Bob Serva was a little before my time at least as far as his involvement with DW.

As far as pics goes, here was my old 15-2 before it found a new home. KurtB it almost looks like a twin to the 15-2 in your pic on the far right minus the vent rib. Will update the large frame section once the 44 I bought is in my hands!

Welcome to the forum! nice to have an insider we can hit up with questions. One off the top of my head when looking at barrels (by the way, you will get a lot of revolver questions here) you see a thing that says new shroud next to the listing. I thought it had to do with being a shroud that fit a CZ made newer 715 but when I talked to a friendly CZ person he said it was just to say it was not a pork chop. It's a bit confusing because it's right next to other listings so I always thought they were different. Why does it not say that on all the listings then?

The impression I was given in the past was that the small frames on the old 15-2 are slightly dimensionally different than the small frames on the new 715 guns. This isn't a massive difference and older, small frame, non pork cop shrouds will work on new frames and vice versa. The fit will just be slightly off where the rib on the barrel meets the top strap of the frame, it will not line up exactly. I used to have a picture that illustrated this and I'm kicking myself now for losing it since I can't remember which was which but I BELIEVE a 15-2 barrel rib will sit slightly lower than the height of the top strap on a 715 and a 715 (or "newer") shroud will jut up proud against the top strap on a 15-2 frame.

With adjustable sights this isn't a big deal as far as function goes, but obviously there is the cosmetic concern that some people rightly have as well. That's why you'll notice only 357 barrel assemblies have this disclaimer as large frame and supermag frames were only ever one size.

If anybody has knowledge that conflicts with this, please don't hesitate to set me straight!

And we are looking forward to having you here! dwf-welcome

Soo, so far you have just the 15-2 (great looking specimen BTW & thanks for sharing it with us), with another 44 coming soon? That's a great way to kick start a case of dwas "Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome". wink
