Just picked up my new Vbob (black).  I've already dis and re-assembled her and she's good to go to the range this weekend. Man alive what a beautiful pistol. I'm a new member here and just wanted to say hey to y'all.

Welcome!  That is going to be a sweet shooter.  Only advice I can offer is on new Dan's run them wet with the supplied lube and clean her often and relube.  First 500 rounds run ball ammo only, no hollow points, get her broken in good first then try the HP's.

Range report when you get her out.

Thanks for the welcome and the great advice. I will follow ALL of it. I had a little trouble getting her back together.... the problem was trying to get past that tiny detent ball where you push the slide lock lever in   ...  other than that ... so far... so good. Thanks again.

Thanks for the great welcome guys. I just ordered a couple of Wilson Combat 47d's and a couple of Tripp Research mags - you know - for comparison.   :)  All 8 rounders. I'll try to get a range report up on the site in a couple of weeks but don't grab me by the stacking swivel and beat me down to parade rest - if I'm a little bit late.

That detent ball has caused many an 'idiot' scratch, be careful with the duty coat finish, can't polish out like a stainless gun.

Roger that sir. Any tips for me so I don't scratch the finish on my next reassembly try?

There are a few good videos on youtube on stripping the Valor and other 1911's.  I watched a few since I'm relatively new to 1911 tear down.   What I do is after installing the slide release, I pull it part way to clear the frame and slide and then rotate it into position and push it straight down into the hole in the frame.  It takes a little fiddling to get it lined up just right but when its there, it will snap into place with the detent ball and not do any damage.

To follow along on this tip, make sure that the plunger tube, springs, etc., are well lubed. The issue is that this is not easily or commonly lubricated, and people end up forcing this assembly step with painful results.

BTW: "Idiot Scratch" is a little harsh, kind of the equivalent of the extractor star scratch on a revolver.

Here is a link to a company that makes little covers to prevent the scratch. I did not buy any, I just looked at the pics to see what it looks like and cut my own from an old playing card. Works great, I keep one in each 1911 case. Because, no matter how careful I am, I know that I have the potential to be an idiot at any time embarassed
