I Didn't start the thread, but at risk will share..

as this thread is:

"DWF Outdoors"
"A place to discuss outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, hiking, bike riding, etc)." I hope I'm not gonna step on a toe again.

so,

not unlike your yard Dave, but I have deer constantly, even in my driveway... I kinda like it. And even tho it would be easy pickin's with a compound bow, I just can't do it...

last year, click and enjoy some vids..

if 4 letter words upset you, please turn the volume down.. sorry, I get a bit excited filming these kids...

http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u672/MAN_OF_BLUES/th_SANY0004_zpsoyufq3f7.mp4

we've sat at that picnic table, with the dog in the rope about 50 ft closer tho the kids, and they have never run off, actually the young ones walk forward to listen to the Skynyrd on the box, and sniff what we are eating at the table.. till momma struts up and turns them away.

glad to share, hopefully you can enjoy it. My propensity of sharing may be taken wrong, but i'm just older, and want to share.

there is about 27 acres behind me land locked, and a haven. I live pretty much in a city, and this is something special, or maybe not.

peace.

That is some nice back yard scenery there.  Many would love to have that.  My backyard, barnyard and side yard have the same scenery, goats..

Nice group of young bucks there ManofBlues.  I don't think I could shoot them either, nothing sporting about that.  I need to be in the woods in their habitat and where they have a sporting chance.

SMF, looks like the goats have been 'busy', judging by the numbers.wink

NICE.cool-pics Hope to see lots of cool wildlife, out west should be interesting!

Our "pet dear" are usually more tame, but it's early yet. I've seen a dozen or more right there in back. My dog does not chase them and they just stand and watch most of the time. I've seen coyotes, red fox, turkeys and 1 black bear a few years ago and I'm 300 yrds from interstate!! No where else to go.occasion

it comes back to him and lands on his arm!! A big one, I guess he raised it from young.

My backyard isn't large, but it backs onto a creek that salmon spawn, so I get all kinds of critters wandering through.  We often have coyotes, raccoons, bobcats, ducks, geese, and a lot of black bears.

Here is a video of a young black bear that stopped by for a visit to eat the fermenting Mountain Ash berries, as it supposedly gets them drunk (the robins will pick the tree clean in a week).  The comments in the video refer to my mother in law that was visiting for 2 weeks from Croatia and really wanted to see a bear, but this guy decided to show up the day after she left.

We've got gobs of wildlife, but the most unique thing has to be watching all the lift offs from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

Zed, that's cool....

Having been in BC and Alberta many times, pretty common thing for you guys to see bears..

a week or so ago, here in N.E. Ohio, some folks about 10 miles from me video'd a nice 300# r on their deck, emptying the bird feeders, and the neighbors all began removing theirs at night because of it...we only get a couple sightings a year as they move in from Pa., becoming more common now due to urban sprawl...

when ya have to mow it, the beer expense, the catcher dumpi'ns add up, minimum time front and back,  I best I did was 4 hours. the pic with the muddy back end was when we were gonna move in, it has since been recouped into nice grass,  of course, you can figure from the size, the piles of grass clippings were a couple piles over 6 ft high during the season, and lasted all winter, right under the trees I had stands in, and  many times I sat there just watching, never shooting them. I've pole axed deer with an arrow (Never here.), dropping it on spot.. I just have an issue sticking one really good, and having it run, and passing the property line  ( maybe 250 ft? but then its mowed yard again.. ), and spinning circles when some little child is screaming about Bambi, dyeing,  Now i can't hunt "here".

but if you zoom, you can see all the deer footprints, that's what sold me on the property... now the "holding company wants to sell, this plot, and the back plot of 30 acres, for $750k.. and there is a nature conservancy holding  up that, thank god. It will never be sold for a development, as dictated by court rulings... so now I feel safe.

but it's fun, especially when then deer are looki'n at me from 40 ft, and thinkin "nah, he's just making dinner salad for us"

thanks for allowing me to share this.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

120 bonsai on benches, a chicken coop for a dozen girls, plum trees, blueberry bushes, citrus of all kinds, blackberries, grapes and a BIG hole that one day will be an even bigger Tilapia pond. One day when I cure my DWAS. 😂

Yours is so much more fun than mine, I especially admire the patience required with bonsai.

Ole Dog, sounds like we share a few things besides Dan's in common.  I assume you do bench grafting on those bonsai trees?  Well I'm not a bench grafter but I have done a fair amount of grafting in the field, topworking trees over to a different scion.   It's a rewarding experience, if not a bit time consuming.  I learned from an old German guy who stayed out of WWII because he was an expert at grafting fruit trees.  Apparently that was deemed essential to the German war effort.

Now before a moderator comes over here and locks this for a hijack, I'll shut up.  🙂

I don't think there's much risk of that. This thread started as a laid back idea (and I assume) about a relaxing place in one's heart and domain...a peaceful scenario, "show us your back yard", which translates into much of a guy's (or lady's) personal area, the back yard. I suppose of any thread here, this one deserves to be hijacked...to a point & within reason.lol2

Keep it relaxed & all's good.occasion

Personally, I would love to see more beautiful back yards, I will be so envious! 🙂

Trees, Grass, Picnic Table, Grill, Fire pit

And I forgot to mention an enormous pile of broken branches waiting to be cut up and fed to the firepit. Lot's of burning, accompanied by cold beverages and a book coming this summer, I think.

I once set a personal best record of producing at least the main entree for dinner from the grill fifteen evenings in a row. Not a real big yard like many of you have, but a couple of years ago when our son was home on leave, he amused himself by taking squirrels with his bow.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
