I have a few items I am considering with a model 15-2 I just purchased. The gun is in pretty good shape except for the barrel shroud. Lots of holster wear but the gun was not shot much. Most of the problem was caused by the gun being left in a leather holster. There is not any pitting but the blued finish and scratches make the gun look tough. I am looking at the cost for a barrel assembly from CZ, EWK, and what is on eBay. I am also looking at the cost to have the shroud refinished. Here are my questions. If you were going to have a shroud reblued who would you recommend? Does it make sense to have the shroud reblued or just purchase a new barrel assembly? Can you purchase just a shroud without the barrel? Does EWK make their Barrel assemblies in batches, I see many are sold out. Does that mean I need to watch for when some are available? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The shroud can be reblued, the barrel I see no reason to. Erik at EWK is very good. Fords of Chrystal River in Florida is nationally regarded. I have quite a few that I am eventually going to have done. With the price of Monson BAs rising it is probably going to pay for itself.

Keep in mind the the cast frame of a Dan and the sideplate and shrouds are all made by different processes  if not different steels. The frame of a blue Dan is always a different hue than the sideplate and shroud even when new. It is usually not apparent right away but if you take the gun into sunlight it is readily apparent. For that reason it does not affect the value of the gun if it is a good reblue job. Any other fine gun has a lowered value compared to original  even if it is a factory reblue. Keep in mind that deep scratches and gouges can not be totally removed. Reblueing the frame may not be cost effective but the shroud and sideplate are no brainers in my opinion.

Yes, Erik makes them in batches. I think you can get on a waiting list.

I recommend Ford's:   https://www.fordsguns.com/

They just reblued a 6vh for a friend and it is beautiful. Cost about 100+

Give them a call for an estimate.

I hesitated early on in this topic to reply because I have no personal experience with Ford's. My one personal experience with any refinishing worked very well, mostly through luck with a local smith that did great gunsmithing and had a trusted sub contractor for the refinish, I was, and continue to be totally satisfied, several years down line.

I have also been very comfortable referring people to Ford's' because while I have no personal experience, everything I see about them, on a variety of forums, is universally positive. If I was having any refinishing work done, they would be my only choice.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Eric at EWK did a .357 shroud and .44 frame/trigger guard for me a few years back.

Never seen better bluing ever.

Had to take frame personally as he is not FFL, but a shroud could be shipped easily.

10 Mag,

Let me say this is a small but large viewed group.

LB Grips and EWK are a godsend to said members that appreciate a fair price but yet the highest quality.

Both have only what I can call the Midas touch.
