   Hello

I just acquired a mid 80s Monson 22VH and have a couple questions. The gun looks like it has had some modifications to the firing pin where the hammer strikes it. Instead of being a perfect cylinder it has had the top third ground off flat somewhat crudely!! Does anyone have a picture of an unmolested one they could post for reference? Are firing pins available anywhere? Also, there is a small gouge in the side of the frame that looks like the hammer contacted it! With the gun assembled there is no way it would touch. Is it reasonable to think this happened when someone had it apart and cycled the gun? Thanks for any and all help!!

Welcome to the group. Sounds unusual. Some pictures would go a long way to helping us understand the problem. Lots of knowledgeable guys here to help out. While you are at it stop by the new members section and introduce yourself. Folks here are real friendly and helpful.

Welcome.  I am not sure without pictures but I believe that there is nothing amiss with your firing pin. There are 2 types, early and improved. The flat spot you mentioned is normal. The "gouge"  you mention is probably where the sideplate meets the frame on the left side of the hammer about half an inch below the rear sight. It is very common and may be a consequence of fitting the sideplate to the frame. The hammer did not hit it. You are very observant. Some may call it OCB😅. How does the gun shoot? And please don't tell the wife you noticed she put on a few pounds
