This is what the inside of the frame looked like before starting with it...

The crane hinge was very rough, kinda  misshapen  and showed serious poor finishing. A lot of time was spent rounding and polishing this area...

It certainly is slow, tedious work, and normally I would have just left it alone, but it looked unfinished and ugly for such a beautiful weapon. I've got some 45hrs of sanding, buffing, staring at and detailing this thing. The hours fly when you have fun.  I always wanted to have a polished fixed-barrel, with the no-vent rib it looks soooo cool.

Beautiful gun and work. Nice job.

But no one asked what about those unique grips?

HOLY MOLY! I can appreciate you effort in this. Looks great!

What materials did you use?

@photohause:  Thanks for the thumbs up! As for materials used, l start with #1500 sand paper, hand pressing over entire surface until the original finish is gone. The rough inside of the frame gets #800 and up from there ( if you like your fingers). Then lots of #2000 and #2500 sand paper all over every bit of surface until the reflection of your dirty fingers is good. That's the onerous part...But then the fun begins when you cut strips of #3000 and #5000 soft PADS and wet sand. The first pics are of that part of the process ( it's reflective but a little hazy after that). The last bunch of pics below were taken after finishing with #5000, #7000, #10000, and #12000 grit, and it's all done wet. After that you polish with a 5" hard wheel and rouge cut, using a 3500rpm polisher. That removes the finest blurs and it evens out the polish. It took me a few hours. Afterwards, l took It apart and cleaned the living you know what out of every part. If you're still not happy with the shine by now, you'll need the walrus hide-covered wooden wheel with the powder media like the old timers used up to the sixties, but I'm done.

Wow! I had a 1979 BMW R/90 motorcycle for years. I was at a rally and someone polished the entire aluminum engine! Crap, it looked like chrome.

I have one of those grips. I have seen them for other brands of revolvers too. They may be stamped in the wood. They are definitely not hand cut. Mine was about 60 on eBay but I recently saw one for sale for $300. I suspect someone took standard grips and applied the pattern. They are identical to early factory smooth targets before the pattern was created.

Ol' Dog, I'm beginning to suspect that you're All Seeing.    Indeed this is the one on EBay, but I didn't pay anywhere near the $300 bucks, but close to what a Zebra grip would set me back. I like the uniqueness of it. It's elegant as hell sticking out of a holster.

Oh boy that is a thing of beauty. I wish my 740 was as deep and polished as yours!

Here I am, taking a break from sanding my fork lowers, aiming to get a mirror polish as well.  It's only time....right?  😉
