So I finally got the DW Valor I've always wanted... well sort of, I always wanted a black valor, but all my LGS had was a stainless VBOB.  I was actually happy about the V-BOB as the feel and size is much nicer if I ever decide I want to carry it.  And the lower price of the stainless was nice too.

Man this is one well put together piece.  fit is immaculate and the gun shot it's first 50 rounds beautifully.

So my only little OCD gripes I have and am curious to know if other valor owners notice the same, mostly for my own piece of mind.

My hammer strut looks different on this pistol than any of my other 1911s.  It doesn't fit the gap in the hammer fully and appears to have been filed or fitted down on one side "right side in the image".  My first assumption is this is due to the precise hand fitting that goes into these.  Maybe for better sear clearance or something.  I just want to know if any other valor owners have similar looking hammer strut.

Also, the bead blasted finish isn't quite uniform on my pistol.  that's a silly gripe as shooting it, handling it, and for sure holstering it (if I ever do) will put marks on the gun anyway.  But since I paid $1700 for this gun I'm super picky and it annoys me some.  I couldn't photo what I'm saying because the light wasn't right.  But if I wipe the gun dry of all oil the slide has some darker and lighter spots where the "finish" isn't uniform.  and on the frame there are two darker looking spots on either side, which almost appear like it was held in a vice or something while being blasted.

How was the new stainless "finish" on ya'lls guns when you bought them?  I know.... go shoot and enjoy it and quit looking at it with a magnifying glass.. I know.  Just being nit picky as this was the pistol I've been eyeing for years and finally dropped the coin.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

How much do you trust in the competence and integrity of your LGS? A new valor should be cosmetically flawless. DW does sell BLEMS that have cosmetic problems but they are often so small as to be difficult to find. I’ve seen them discounted by a couple hundred dollars. Something sounds very fishy with the number of issues on you “new” Valor. I would vigorously address this with your LGS.

My PM 9, 10, and 45 all are perfectly finished.  I did look at the hammer struts on each and the PM9 fills the slot on the hammer completely- the others are similar to yours.  IMO, it has no affect on function: the strut simply rides on the pin. It's probably a difference in manufacturer specifications.  I also checked my Kimbers- same thing- not completely filling the gap in the hammer.

I'd be more upset about the finish than the strut.  Are you certain the LGS didn't sell you a blem?  Is there an upside down Y at the end of the SN?

Regards, Ron

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Hello all.  Been a bit since I posted, but wanted to report back.  I was able to confirm with DW that the gun was sold as a non-blem gun.  Took it to the LGS to complain, but they gave me the "its functionally fine" routine.

I think the finish issues were likely from it being handled at the store more than likely.

The resolution to my woes was I contacted DW customer service and Glenn over there gladly gave me an RMA to replace my hammer strut at no cost to me.  They are paying shipping both ways also.

So in the end I'm happy as can be with DW and their service.  Not so happy with the LGS in how they handled the issue.

DW has had my gun for one week so far, and I look forward to getting her back very soon.
