I just came across a Dan Wesson model 40-V 357 SuperMag, 8" barrel with an extra interchangeable barrel, bright blue finish. SN: E001799. Comes with original box, paper work, unopened wrapped extra barrel and tool. Revolver is in new condition, not a flaw.

I cannot find any information on this model in any of my books nor on line. Any information on this model would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Here is a link that has some history.   http://www.sixguns.com/range/supermags.htm.      We do have a lot of large frame member/owners. I am sure they'll be around soon enough to give you some info. You can do a search on site too, and find some threads here.

BTW, dwf-welcometodwf.  Put up some cool-pics soon as you can..

.357 SM pretty much takes the .38 caliber revolver round as far as it can go, and the Model 40 let's you take it way far out there.

.357 SM is a reloaders cartridge, the 40/740 will stand up to some pretty stout loadings. It's built on the .44 Mag/.445 SuperMag frame, and several other pretty aggressive calibers.

In order to really work with .357 SM, you need to be a reloader.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Dave, Welcome to this place!    If you like  a hand cannon pick this up!   As Steve said, if you choose to  shoot it you have a few options! They did come new with an extra barrel tube, 8"is the most common as well as bright shiney blue!

Dtcent, the mk 40's were designed from the first to be a IHMSA silhouette

revolver.  I've had my second one since 1990, when I purchased it from

Robert Gates, son of Elgin Gates, the founder of IHMSA.  Brass is fairly

hard to find, as Remington only produces one large lot of it every year.

Whether or not they will continue to do so is unknown, but I hope so as

I dont know what other case that could be made into this fine cartridge.

Thanks for all the great information. I paid $600.00 for it. Hope it was a fair deal. I'm guessing that I can shoot the 357 max and the 357 mag? I plan to use it for deer hunting this year. Does anybody make a scope mount for this model?

Thanks again for all the replies,  It a great looking and feeling revolver and cant wait to start shooting.

That's gtdw.  Holy mackerel, man.  you stole that.

Be careful about shooting .38's and 357's through that gun. You're best to stick with .357 Maximum.

There are scope mounts available which will not damage your shroud.

This would be one example though they're no longer available.

There are others also, some of which can be found on GB or eBay.

goodluck

BTW, welcome to the DWF and the world of Dan Wesson.

dwf-welcome to the forum! You got a great deal on that one! Stick with the .357 Maximum ammo, and leave the .38/.357 stuff for another DW. Don't try to hot-rod it with light bullets. They were designed for 170 grain and heavier bullets for silhouette shooting.

Dang! That's for sure agtdw these days, you did GOOD!occasion

I paid $800 & shipping for my (then) unfired model 40 in March 2009, and the prices have steadily increased since then. So I think you did very well on that decision...and you can tell your wife I said so.lol2 Here's a couple shots of mine, just after I brought it home...

BTW, your gun's serial number is slightly earlier than mine. Since yours still has it's spare barrel in the wrapper, does yours have this same date on it?
