I went to a gun show this weekend and bought a Blued Dan Wesson Model 15-2HV with an 8 in. barrel.  When looking it over at the show I noticed that the site rail had the word "SCRATCHED" lightly written on the top with a black magic marker or something and was only noticeable when tipped just right in bright light.  I bought it from the son-in-law of the owner who has a FFL and the son-in-law said it had never been shot and that he had never seen that marking and new nothing about it.  Needless to say I bought the revolver for I could not see really any scratches on it or in the barrel except for a small smudge.  The revolver looks bran new and he had the original box but no papers.  Has anyone seen or heard of this SCRATCHED marking coming from Dan Wesson before? I have cleaned it with gun cleaner and the marking is still present.

New one to me. However, read a bunch of posts to learn about avoiding scratches on the sideplate from the cylinder closing while the stars extended when ejecting cartridges.

Never seen that one before, especially written on the gun itself.  Got any pics?

Here is a photo of the word "scratched" written on the top of the barrel with black marker or something it is very faint.  I have cleaned it and it does not come off.  Also I cannot find a scratch anywhere on the revolver.

No telling what previous owners have done or why.  That shroud is in great shape and lots better than most I've seen.  Forget about it, shoot it and enjoy !

I bought it to shoot but my husband wants me to collect it as new in box.  It looks like it's never been shot and I bought it form the original owner and he said it was never shot.  My husband says I have plenty of other DW revolvers to shoot.

I posted another picture it came also with the original grips and original box no papers though or tool.

The collectability of a 15-2 that has "never been fired" is negligible .. there are just way too many of them out there.

If you want to. I've touched up a couple of flat gun areas w/this. IMHO it matches very well.

You could tape off and lightly dust it on [try a test panel 1st].
